Scheduling a Virtual Neuropsychological Evaluation?
Here’s What You Can Expect.

So, you’ve noticed some changes in your thinking skills (e.g, memory, attention) and are considering getting a neuropsychological evaluation? Or maybe your doctor (primary care physician, neurologist, etc) has referred you for one?

You can expect your visit to include:

Clinical interview:
A conversation with a neuropsychologist to express your concerns and share details about your medical, emotional, and social background. This typically takes 40-60 minutes.
Paper-pencil and/or computer-based testing:
A variety of tests that vary in difficulty assessing thinking skills. Some are multiple choice or puzzle-like and others are answered orally These are not “pass or fail” tests but do require your best effort, attention, and motivation in order to be valid and interpretable. The testing typically takes 2-3 hours to complete.
Self-report questionnaires evaluating mood:
Questions about your emotional health including depression, anxiety and other relevant areas.

Overall, your virtual neuropsychological “visit” typically takes 3-4 hours!

Who do I meet with in my neuropsychological evaluation?
Who do I meet with in my
neuropsychological evaluation?
Your clinical interview will be performed by a licensed neuropsychologist. They typically have a PhD in clinical psychology with a specialization in clinical neuropsychology along with many years of field work with patients with cognitive issues.
The cognitive tests are primarily administered by a psychometrist but can also be administered by the neuropsychologist. What is a psychometrist? Good question! A psychometrist is a master’s or doctoral level individual with a specialized background (academic and experiential) in knowledge of cognitive test administration and scoring.
After 7-10 days, your same neuropsychologist will schedule a follow-up meeting to discuss your results and provide your feedback. They will discuss your results with you and give you recommendations to address any weaknesses from your cognitive testing and developmental best practices.
Can my mood affect my
neuropsychological results?
A component of neuropsychological testing is to screen for psychiatric symptoms including depression, anxiety or other behavioral difficulties. This is completed via self-report questionnaires. Neuropsychologists are trained to determine whether cognitive issues are related to mood, neurological dysfunction, or both!

How does a virtual neuropsychological evaluation compare to an in-person evaluation?
How does a virtual neuropsychological
evaluation compare to an in-person
evaluation?
You don’t have to drive anywhere or find parking! (Haha)
Virtual evaluations are shown to be as valid as in-person and Minder’s evaluations use the same gold-standard paper-and-pencil tests. Minder evaluations are just much faster to schedule and can be more affordable too.
Virtual evaluation feedback reports are also easy to share with your referring doctor or loved ones.

Anything else I need to know before scheduling with Minder?

You need to have access to two electronic devices (e.g., laptop and cell phone)
To make the experience as easy as possible, we mail you a “Patient Packet” that has everything you need on test day, including paper versions of the tests.
We also do a “Tech Check” in advance, so there’s no issues on the technology side.
